UD Las Palmas approached the return leg of this Spanish Cup tie as almost certainties following the 1-4 victory in the away leg in Riazor. Las Palmas (min. 10) had a double chance to score the first goal of the game. Deportivo' Rumanian goalkeeper, Pantilimón, blocked two shots by Calleri and Hernán Santana. Both teams featured new faces in a match that seemed a foregone conclusion before the start.

Deportivo de La Coruña began to threaten the home goal defended by Chichizola, but lacked the final punch. The ball and the tempo of the game belonged to Pako Ayestarán's men. It was by no means exciting football, more a matter of contention.

In the 41st minute, Deportivo de La Coruña reduced the arrears in the tie with a goal by Çolak. A good left-footed shot went beyond the reach of Argentine goalkeeper Chichizola. The worst thing was not the goal conceded, but the muscular injury to Vitolo before half time.

Depor stepped up a gear and added spice to the tie with a second goal early in the second half. Following a free kick from the wing a header by Borja Valle beat Chichizola (min. 52). Five minutes later, and following a great piece of play by Oussama Tannane, Hernán Toledo got a goal back for Las Palmas (1-2). Moroccan international Oussama could have equalized with a great left-footed shot that smashed against the crossbar (min. 72).

Las Palmas seemed intent on giving Deportivo a lifeline in the tie. With just ten minutes to go before the end of the game the away team scored their third goal of the night. A shot from outside the area by Borja Valle took home goalkeeper Chichizola by surprise. Lucas Pérez, with an open goal in front of him, had the chance to put his team on level terms, but Aythami Artiles blocked his shot on the goal line. Remy, in time added on, finally calmed fans's nerves by scoring his team's second to make the scoreline 2-3. In the end, the yellows limped over the line but registered another home defeat.
