UD stumbles again at home as Real Sociedad takes the points (1-3)

Another disappointment at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, with 22,616 fans in attendance on a Sunday afternoon. UD Las Palmas surrendered all three points to Real Sociedad (1-3), on a day when Oli McBurnie finally scored his first goal in La Liga. The Scottish striker’s goal brought some hope in the second half, although the visiting team made the most of their chances to secure the win.

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

It was an uphill battle almost from the start. Fabio Silva nearly opened the scoring just 2 minutes in after receiving an accidental defensive pass. The Portuguese forward made it into the box and struck with power, but Remiro denied him with a timely leg save that deflected the ball for a corner.

However, the goal did come two minutes later with Real Sociedad’s first attempt. Dinko Horkas parried the initial shot, but Oyarzábal was left unmarked and calmly finished from the edge of the six-yard box.

Las Palmas took a few minutes to respond and had another big chance in the 18th minute. Fabio Silva played McBurnie through with a vertical run into the box, but the Spanish international keeper Remiro managed to snatch the ball just as the Scot was about to shoot.

The home side kept pushing in hopes of reaching halftime with at least an equal score. But their chances were wasted with two efforts from Fabio Silva in the 44th and 45th minutes. The first went over the bar after a great ball from Javi Muñoz, and the second hit the crossbar with Remiro already beaten.

The 0-1 score at halftime was already harsh and undeserved for the home side. But things got even worse when a second-half counterattack from Real Sociedad led to a second goal, this time from Sergio Gómez. Las Palmas took more risks, opened up at the back, and their opponents exploited the spaces with deep runs.

Hope returned in the 60th minute with the 1-2. McBurnie finally got his reward, scoring after a clever play and assist from Fabio Silva, slicing through Real’s defensive lines.

The goal gave Las Palmas a spark and a glimmer of hope, but Real Sociedad immediately capitalized on a defensive error to score the 1-3. A throw-in play led to Aramburu’s goal, sealing the fate of a tough afternoon.

From that point on, the game became a struggle for Las Palmas, who kept pushing for another goal. But Real Sociedad continued to exploit the open spaces with dangerous counterattacks. A disallowed goal from Kubo due to offside and a shot that hit the post could have changed the final scoreline.
