Las Palmas Break the Drought and Secure First Win of 2025 (1-3)

UD Las Palmas finally broke their poor run of form on Saturday, earning their first victory of 2025 with a 1-3 away win over Getafe. Diego Martínez’s side had to come from behind in the second half, showing attacking efficiency to turn the game around. The win was secured with two goals from striker Fabio Silva and another from Oli McBurnie.

The afternoon in Getafe began under a brief downpour, with both teams playing cautiously. The match was slow to get going, but things opened up around the 15-minute mark as the sun came out and both sides began exchanging chances.

Once again, however, Las Palmas found themselves trailing early, conceding from Getafe’s first real chance. The home side scored from a set-piece, as centre-back Alderete headed in from a wide free-kick. The goal was reviewed by VAR for four minutes due to a potential offside, but it was eventually allowed to stand.

The setback rattled Las Palmas for a spell, and goalkeeper Dinko Horkas was called upon to make three consecutive saves in the 25th minute to deny a second goal. One of those efforts, a powerful strike from Luis Milla, was deflected by the Croatian keeper onto the post.

Gradually, the visitors began to find their rhythm. Their first threat came via Sandro, whose low shot was easily handled by Soria. Moments later, Viti made a dangerous run that ended with a foul by Rico — the Getafe man stepping on the Las Palmas winger. After a VAR review, the referee showed Rico a straight red card.

Despite the painful knock, Viti stayed on and before halftime delivered Las Palmas’ best chance — a pinpoint cross met by a clean header from McBurnie that went just wide. The teams went into the break with Getafe still leading 1-0, but the momentum had shifted.

Marvin Park and Alberto Moleiro came on at the start of the second half, and Las Palmas pushed for an equaliser. Marvin twice whipped in dangerous crosses that nearly found yellow shirts.

The equaliser finally came just seven minutes after the restart. Fabio Silva, with a clever striker’s move, controlled a back-to-goal pass and turned to finish with his left foot, catching the defence and keeper by surprise.

Getafe then found themselves under intense pressure, and though they tried to respond, it was Las Palmas who struck again in the 60th minute. Oli McBurnie made it 1-2, finishing off a move initiated by a long pass and deft control from Mika Mármol, followed by an assist from Moleiro.

From that point, Las Palmas stayed composed and waited for more openings. One finally came when Fabio Silva beat defender Domingos Duarte in a sprint and calmly chipped the keeper to seal the 1-3 victory. That goal released weeks of frustration for the yellow side, as they moved toward their long-awaited first win of 2025 and ended their winless run in the second half of the season.

Las Palmas will now return home to face Atlético Madrid in their next La Liga fixture.
