Toni Otero thanked FC Barcelona for releasing him, and also thanked president Miguel Ángel Ramírez for having entrusted him with the latest sporting project at UD Las Palmas. “I have full powers to take any kind of sporting decision, and I will be the decision-maker for all sports issues" he said. The club’s new technical secretary said he was clear about how he saw the new squad shaping up. "We will start making decisions as soon as the new manager gets here", he stated, while also saying "tomorrow we will be officially announcing our new manager who will be presented next Monday if all goes to plan".

"I am a team player. I do not dictate to anyone, I like to take joint decisions. We will try to put together a competitive team in accordance with the level we are playing at and with the clear goal of getting promotion back up to the first division". Otero stated that next season “the Spanish second division will be really tough, perhaps even more evenly-balanced than previous years".

Regarding the youth set up, he said "those who come knocking and get their foot in the door will be playing. The Las Palmas youth set up pleases me, and will get the exposure they deserve. If there are players who are under contract but who want to leave, then we will activate their rescission clause”. As for what they were looking for in a new manager, he said "he must be in keeping with the objectives set out by the club".
