UD Las Palmas remain unbeaten in the Estadio Gran Canaria, but tonight’s draw does them no favours. The only change made to the starting line-up was Rubén Castro who replaced the suspended Sergio Araujo. Two early chances came for Las Palmas, who despite this were unable to stamp their authority on the game. Firstly Timor and then Rubén Castro had shots that tried to catch out ex-Las Palmas goalkeeper Casto from outside the box.

The home side continue to be jinxed, as they conceded a goal by a freak rebound. An attempted clearance by Raúl Fernández rebounded off the leg of Ortuño and straight into the net. A goal for Extremadura which silenced the home crowd of the Estadio Gran Canaria (min. 24). A minute later a Timor free kick was touched onto the post by the away goalkeeper.

Zarfino had a great chance to score his side’s second goal, but on this occasion Raúl Fernández pulled off a brilliant reflex save. Las Palmas were still rocking from the goal, but then had another long distance shot from fully 30 metres by Timor that Castro turned behind for a corner. The yellows managed to pull level before the interval. Rubén Castro showed great coolness in front of goal to score in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Las Palmas began to assert themselves on the match. Extremadura sat back and looked to attack on the break. The home side looked a threat around their opponents’ box, with Rubén Castro looking to get on the end of a move. The home side continued to lay siege on their opponents’ goal. Rafa Mir and Maikel Mesa both had chances to score, but luck was not on their side. With eight minutes to go Juan Cala was sent off for two bookable offences. Extremadura, who had been pushed back for much of the second half, were able to breathe a little easier.

Rubén Castro had a goal disallowed for offside from the previous piece of action(min. 87), with Rafa Mir the culprit, and then the home side had penalty claims turned down by referee Sagués Oscoz for a possible handball in the area. The final whistle came with a draw that may have consequences.
