Pepe Mel made it clear he wouldn’t make any statement about the referee’s performance and highlighted the great effort his players made, who, despite being reduced to ten men on the pitch “still went all out for victory”.

“We played the game we had to. I think my team were better except for three minutes of the game” responded Mel. As for his starting line-up, which once again featured two second team players, he said “there is no better way to use what you’ve got than to play these lads. All those who come knocking and open the door will be made welcome”.

The Las Palmas fans who made the journey to the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium cheered the team on and Mel was grateful to them, as he sent them this message, “all the fans should feel proud of the team tonight”.
