Diego Martínez: “Until the math says otherwise, we will keep fighting with everything we have”
The coach said: “As a manager, you feel responsible. We’ve failed, and we’re truly sorry. We’re hurting — we gave it everything.”
Diego Martínez spoke after the match at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. “To the fans, I want to say we’re deeply sorry. We understand how they must feel. We’ve let them down. When the season ends, it’ll be time for a deeper analysis,” he said.
Some of his key remarks:
“Throughout the year, we’ve tried every approach. We came to a stadium where, in the first half, we managed to make the crowd nervous with good ball circulation. We found what we were looking for — possession and forcing them to hesitate with their pressing.”
“The match was going where we wanted, but a wide free kick tilted the balance. We believed in our chances. The disallowed goal was questionable, but it’s true that everything has gone against us this season — it just wasn’t meant to be.”
“I’m the first to step up in defeat and the last in victory — I take full responsibility as the coach.”
