UD Las Palmas came to the Santiago Bernabéu in a moment of crisis following their six consecutive defeats in Liga, and up against a Real Madrid immersed in their own crisis after slipping up in the league against Girona and in the Champions League against Tottenham. The whites had more than enough to deal with Las Palmas, who finish the weekend once more in a relegation spot. The put in an improved performance but were unable to hold out. Real Madrid made the most of individual moments of skill to seal the points while still not showing any signs of recovery in terms of their football.

Pako Ayestarán strengthened his back line with three central defenders: Bigas-Lemos-Ximo Navarro. After just three minutes Benzema had the first chance of the match that Raúl Lizoain kept out with his feet. Nonetheless, Las Palmas played with character, and in the 11th minute Vitolo could have scored. Home keeper Casilla kept his effort out. The home fans in the Bernabéu were getting nervous because their team were not showing signs of superiority, although at certain moments in the match they did enough to pull through.

Madrid had possession but were unable to dominate. Las Palmas were able to pass the ball around comfortably and on occasions made some dangerous counter attacks. Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post in the 27th minute, nearly scoring the first goal. The yellows were still very much in the match, as they played seriously in defence, although they were too predictable going forward. Another header by Ronaldo (min. 34) was saved by Raúl. Madrid pushed forward and in the last quarter of an hour before half time Las Palmas began to show fragility. The first goal duly arrived, a header by Casemiro from a corner kick (min. 40).

Right at the death of the first period Jonathan Calleri headed over in one of the few shots on goal that Real Madrid allowed Las Palmas. Half time arrived with a 1-0 scoreline, in which Madrid were still uncomfortable despite being in the lead.

Las Palmas were able to hold out in the second half until Asensio's stunning strike that put the game to bed (min. 56). Madrid were now beginning to play the football they were wanting to, back and forth looking for spaces to finish their rivals off. 3-0 came with a goal by Isco, in the 73rd minute. Zidane's team continued to push forward in search of further goals, but Ronaldo was unable to get on the scoresheet. In the 82nd minute, the crossbar kept out a fierce drive by Sergio Ramos. The final whistle blew with a 3-0 victory for the whites, condemning UD Las Palmas to their seventh consecutive league defeat.
