UD Las Palmas failed to win, and score, for the second week running. They drew against Alcorcón in a game in which they deserved more. The home side moved the ball around in midfield quicker than in previous occasions. They tried to undo the defensive blockade of AD Alcorcón, who came to the Estadio Gran Canaria not having conceded a goal for five matches. The starting line-up for Las Palmas was predictable, with Rafa Mir alongside Danny Blum, plus the return of Alberto De la Bella on the left hand side.

UD Las Palmas swept into their opponents’ half from the word go. They had long periods of possession, and were looking to control the match. A shot by David García that was off-target, and another by Rafa Mir which was blocked by the feet of goalkeeper Jiménez were the highlights of a first half in terms of chances. The home side’s dominance was not rewarded with a goal against a side that limited themselves to ordered defending.

Manolo Jiménez soon shuffled his pack in the second half. Sergio Araujo was back at the Estadio Gran Canaria following his year and a half loan move to AEK Athens and an eight week layoff through injury. He came on in place of Rafa Mir. The game continued in the same vein, but with a different kind of threat now on the pitch. The Argentine began to upset the Alcorcón backline with his mobility and twists and turns, but Parralo’s side did nothing to change their playing style. Raúl Fernández had hardly anything to do, except running out of his area to make a clearance.

With Blum down the left Las Palmas were able to gain more depth. Rubén Castro had a great chance as he dribbled past Jiménez, who responded with great agility to block the striker’s shot. Several shots from distance by Araujo were not enough to knock down the wall of Alcorcón who came away with a hard-earned point from the Estadio Gran Canaria.
