Las Palmas came away from Alcorcón without a point, and lost the chance to make up ground on the play off places, which are now seven points away. There were two new faces in the line-up tonight compared to last week. Sergio Araujo started, in place of Rubén Castro, while Alberto De la Bella came back to the team in the position of left back. Dani Castellano, who had been a regular in recent matches, stayed in Gran Canaria on this occasion.

In a match that was based on long ball tactics, Las Palmas were the first to create a goal-scoring chance. Shots from outside the box by Timor and Galarreta showed the away side’s intentions. In the 21st minute, they had their best chance, a cross-shot by Fidel that home goalkeeper Jiménez was able to block.

Paco Herrera’s side remained on top in all phases of the match. They were highly competitive in the 50-50 challenges. They made regular raids on the home side’s goal, but they were unable to make their chances count before half time.

In the second half, Alcorcón made the most of hesitancy in Las Palmas’ defence, as they went ahead through a disputed penalty given away by Álvaro Lemos, converted by Esteban Burgos (min. 58). Two minutes earlier Raúl Fernández had kept the Madrid side at bay by blocking a shot by Sangalli with his feet.

Las Palmas came alive with the introduction of Rubén Castro, who replaced Fidel. In the 69th minute a shot from fully 30 metres by Blum was acrobatically turned over the bar by the home goalkeeper. The game was where Alcorcón wanted it to be. They made the most of their opponents’ hasty attacks, were able to steal the ball and go on the counter attack. The game became an uphill struggle for the away side following Alcorcón’s second strike (min. 77). From an inswinging corner, Sandaza put the ball beyond Raúl’s reach. The end of the match duly arrived with the feeling that Las Palmas had deserved to take the points, but in which Alcorcón had made the most of their chances.
