The starting line-up for Las Palmas featured new faces Fidel and Tana. Momo missed the game through injury, as did Galarreta with shoulder problems. The yellows created several clear cut scoring chances in the first quarter of an hour. Albacete’s goalkeeper had to block two angled shots by Rubén Castro. Albacete left gaps at the back as they looked to break, while there were doubts in the home side’s midfield which caused slight imbalance which was soon sorted out.

Defender Álvaro Lemos was forced off the field through injury after half an hour’s play. He was replaced by Argentine central defender Martín Mantovani. Captain David García, who was playing his 454th match to break legend Germán Dévora’s record, was moved to the right hand side, a place he has experience at.

Although Manolo Jiménez’s side were the much better side with the ball, they couldn’t get midfielder Tana to link up in the first half with forwards Rafa Mir and Rubén Castro. There were plenty of attacking moves, but the final pass went astray. Las Palmas’ football died out as it reached the penalty box and gave ample respite to the away side. In the last move of the first half, Rubén Castro popped up to put his side 1-0 ahead, his third goal of the season.

The second half saw Albacete improve, making Las Palmas chase the play more than what was expected. It wasn’t pretty football and there were few chances. In the 66th minute, Rubén Castro hit the woodwork. Las Palmas defended strongly, although they showed signs of tiredness. Alfredo Ortuño came on to add spice to the away side’s attack. The ex Las Palmas player was applauded onto the pitch by the fans at the Estadio Gran Canaria. Albacete drew level somewhat luckily when a cross from the left was turned into his own goal by David García in the 82nd minute. Straight after Sacko had victory in his sights but his placed shot brushed the outside of the post. The final whistle came with a share of the points.
