Diego Martínez: “It’s a tough day, but in the face of adversity, we choose to fight”

The Las Palmas coach emphasized: “We’re in a low-confidence moment. It showed in some of the inaccuracies. It was a struggle, especially because of the quality of the opponent.”

Diego Martínez spoke to the media in the press room at the Estadio Gran Canaria following the defeat to Rayo Vallecano. “Obviously it’s a very tough night — we came up short. We knew it was going to be a tight match. We had clear chances in the second half, but the 0-1 goal hurt us a lot,” said the coach.

Some of his statements:

“We always take our share of the responsibility as coaches. No one here is giving up. We’ve got three matches left. It’s very hard, but we have to try. Today we didn’t achieve something we really needed.”

“We know it’s a very difficult moment. We had high hopes for this game. We failed, we’re sorry, but we gave everything and it just wasn’t enough.”

“There are three games left. I see the squad working hard every day. Our confidence is low, and that’s been reflected in the mistakes. I accept and understand that when things don’t go well, the ultimate responsibility is mine.”
