UD Las Palmas’ trainer declared, following his team’s heavy defeat, that "Athletic were clearly on top throughout, although we did have the odd chance to get back into the match, they overcame us with their speed tonight which really hurt us".
"The two goals they scored from set pieces early on did us great damage, Mateo has played well and did as well as he could", he declared.
"We suffered a lot at the hands of Willians and his great pace, and perhaps I am to blame for not making any changes to avoid what happened, we lacked clarity and aggressiveness".
"This may well have been one of our worst performances, they were much sharper and they overran us, if anyone is to blame it is me, but I don’t think the team is broken because of the result".
