Mel warns of the difficulties of the clash against Racing Club de Santander tomorrow, saying "They have been on a good run, they are recently promoted. They have important wide players and their trainer plays a bold style of football. I am really excited about the team we will be putting out tomorrow". He added "We will try to add our grain of solidarity with the island of Gran Canaria. The club has behaved impeccably with the whole island and has done what is has had to do. I am absolutely sure that the people will respond. We are upset at having lost our first home game against Huesca and we will go all out for victory tomorrow".
Referring to the departure of Timor, Mel stated: "The president, when he met up with the players to ask them to accept a drop in salary, said to them that if any offers came in from a first division club he would not stand in their way. He was committed to this and the club has fulfilled that promise". Pepe Mel also said that with the marketplace still being a hive of transfer activity, that Timor might not be the last player to leave the club.
Second team striker Juan Fernández will be another new face in the squad. "I am making full use of our home talent. Juan Fernández has started well with the second team and given our shortage of strikers at the moment we are going to use him. I want our local players to play a part. I am fully committed to them, not because I want to look good but because it is true", he stated.
Mel explained he was pleased with the loan signing of Jonathan Viera, saying: "Viera is a very intuitive player. I know a lot about him. Obviously he will be a great help to us. It is good news that a locally-born player is coming back to play for us. He is not quite ready to play at the moment as he is recovering from injury".
