UD Las Palmas remain unbeaten in the Estadio Gran Canaria, but today’s draw feels like two points dropped because of the manner in which it was produced. Deivid took the place of the injured David García. This was the only change to the starting line-up for UD Las Palmas tonight against Deportivo de La Coruña. Two serious promotion candidates to the first division locked heads in tonight’s clash. The game started with both teams fighting to take control of midfield and possession. Gran Canaria-born Vicente Gómez and David Simón were back at the Estadio Gran Canaria in a different colour shirt. They were given a hostile reception. Depor looked more comfortable on the ball and threatened their rivals’ area more often. .

Depor sent out a warning shot with a long range effort by Carlos Fernández which Raúl Fernández turned behind for a corner. The same player (min. 20) headed onto a post in the away side’s most dangerous move. On the half hour mark, and after Sergio Araujo depossessed a rival player, Las Palmas had a shot on goal, but Javi Castellano fired over.  Las Palmas could not get the ball through to their forwards. Every attack ended up with the ball in the hands of Dani Giménez. Half time arrived with a nil-nil scoreline.

The second half started badly for the home side, with Rubén Castro having to leave the field after being hit in the eye. Tana came on as his replacement. Two minutes after the game was restarted, Galarreta scored a superb goal with a shot that went in off the bar and into the top corner. The game changed at this point. Deportivo found it hard to string any move together, and Las Palmas had more possession. A well-placed shot by Rafa Mir could have made it 2-0, but the ball shaved the post. Deportivo continued to push forward and threaten the home defence. Juan Cala and Timor, the latter who will miss the next game against Elche for his fifth yellow card, shored up the defence against Depor who were going all out for a draw.

Sergio Araujo had a great chance to put the game beyond Deportivo in the 79th minute, but his powerful shot bounced off a defender. Game was still in the air as Deportivo applied the pressure. The home defence and goalkeeper kept the away threat at bay. Rafa Mir had several chances to seal victory, then in the last minute Raúl Fernández managed to avoid the equalizer, but from the resulting corner Domingos Duarte headed home to leave the home fans speechless. The end came with an unjust share of the points.
