Pepe Mel assessed tonight’s defeat against Granada, saying “I am really happy because the players are striving to do what we ask of them. The younger players are really going for at, and with the exception of our attack I am satisfied”, while also saying that as he looks forward to the first league match of the season that “the young lads must compete hard because this time last year most of them were playing in 2ª B (third tier of Spanish football)”.

“The team held it together and when we play against teams at our level that is what I want” responded Mel. The trainer was asked about the needs of his squad, and said he was calm, because “I can see how the players I’ve got are working hard. My only obsession is for Mauricio Lemos to stay with us”.

He ended by talking about the current state of Cristian Cedrés, saying “he doesn’t look too bad, and we are working to get him fit for the game against Huesca”, adding “when we get Araujo and Rubén Castro back, we will look totally different”.
