García Pimienta made up to five changes in the UD Las Palmas lineup at Balaídos compared to the last match against Sevilla. One of them was the central defender from the youth team, Juanma Herzog, who scored the opening goal of the Saturday afternoon.
Hope was generated in just 11 minutes. Juanma rose to head a corner delivered by Munir. And the young academy player connected his head with the ball, deflecting it into the Vigo goal.
The match had started well for the yellows with their first foray into the opposition area. And so did the game because with possession as their tool for the following minutes, Las Palmas dictated the morning and had new chances to extend their lead.
Munir hit the side netting in one of those opportunities and goalkeeper Guaita saved another shot from Juanma, who sought his second goal from corner kicks.
The match was progressing as planned by García Pimienta's players. But in five minutes, the game abruptly changed direction. In the 34th minute, Valles saved a one-on-one against Strand Larsen, who had broken through into the area. But in the 36th and 39th minutes, the two goals for the comeback by Celta came, courtesy of Aspas and Willot.
In the 1-1 and 2-1, the Celta attackers faced little opposition to change the course of the match, which ended in the first half with that scoreline and a noticeable shift in momentum.
The second half proved to be a torment for García Pimienta's team, who couldn't regain their footing in the game. Douvikas and Aspas extended the lead to the final 4-1. In the bleak Vigo afternoon, Álvaro Valles stood out with notable saves that prevented a higher scoreline against them.
