Las Palmas have now gone three weeks without a win after tonight’s 3-0 defeat in Almería. UD Las Palmas put out their strongest attacking line-up at the Juegos del Mediterráneo Stadium looking to change their luck. Rubén Castro and Sergio Araujo added an extra spark to the yellows, who came into the game against Almería following a winless streak of two weeks, and on the back of knowing that both Málaga and Deportivo de La Coruña had won their matches this weekend. Mantovani came into defence replacing David García, who stayed behind to be at the birth of his child. Fidel returned to his former home on the left wing.

Almería made things hard right from the start with an early goal by Narváez (min. 9), following a long move. Sergio Araujo could have equalized on two occasions, but then Las Palmas entered a period of the game in which they lost every fifty-fifty ball. A save by Raúl Fernández and a glaring miss by home forward Álvaro Giménez (sending the ball high over an empty goal) meant Almería were unable to extend their lead.

Five minutes before the break Maikel Mesa had a perfectly good goal disallowed, as he was in an onside position when he headed the ball into the net. Almería played mainly on the break, while Las Palmas were unable to control the game when they looked the better side on the ball.

In the second half, Las Palmas were unable to trouble the home side. Manolo Jiménez made a double change in the 55th minute, Tana and Blum coming on for Maikel Mesa and Fidel. Nothing changed, however. It was the home side who were creating the chances, and who made the score 2-0 (min. 65) with a goal by Juan Carlos. Then an unlucky rebound by Lemos off his own goalkeeper led to the third goal for Almería in the 85th minute. This defeat means Las Palmas are now three points off a direct promotion place.
