Manolo Márquez, ex-manager of UD Las Palmas, spoke this lunchtime at a press conference in the Estadio Gran Canaria to provide an explanation into his resignation, which he handed in last night to club president Miguel Ángel Ramírez. The Catalonian trainer leaves the manager's bench behind following six matches in the league, in 15th position and on 6 points.

"In life sometimes you have to make decisions you don't like, and it is not due to Sunday's defeat. I am grateful to the club for the wonderful opportunity they gave me to manage the team I have supported all my life, especially the president, who was right behind me from the beginning. I am sorry to have let him down. Honesty has to prevail over all else. Someone else will come along who will do a better job than me", he stated.

"I am convinced the team will stay up, because we have a great squad. I have an excellent relationship with the players", he stressed. He doesn't consider his resignation as a failure, rather a matter of dignity. "Last night when I made my decision, I spoke to the four team captains and I told them what was happening. My decision is a more personal one", he said. "During these months in the first division, more than learning, I take with me the experience of having done it, and you never know in time there might be a second chance to return to the manager's bench".
