UD Las Palmas took on the return leg of the last 32 round of the Copa del Rey with a certain advantage over Huesca, with the away goals scored in the 2-2 draw in El Alcoraz and with new faces in the starting line-up, as occurred in Aragón in the first leg match. It rounds off a great year for the yellows.

A great foray by David Simón por down the right wing nearly ended in the first goal of the night, but Queco blocked well. This was how the first quarter of an hour was reached, when in another move down the right Tyronne struck the post, and Mateo popped up to open the scoring for the yellows (1-0). The goal by the Argentinian opened the way for the home team, as Huesca now needed two goals to knock out Las Palmas.

After half an hour the home team had their noses in front and were running the show. All the play was going down the right hand side with David Simón looking very sharp. The best chance for the visitors was a shot by Cmiljanic that Raúl Lizoain cleared with no difficulty. And this is how the teams reached the break.

Following a few early minutes of sparring in the second half, Asdrúbal made the most of indecision between the away goalkeeper and ex yellow Jesús Valentín to make the score 2-0, in the 60th minute. The forward from Guanarteme celebrated emphatically, as a way of claiming a regular place in the starting line-up.

Momo and Javi Castellano came on in the 73rd minute, replacing Tyronne and Hernán respectively, to freshen up the home team. There was an ovation for Javi Castellano, a real show of kindness from the home fans for the twin who had worked his way through the ranks into the first team. Two minutes later, in the 75th, captain David García crashed the ball against the post defended by Queco, which would have meant a third goal for the home team.

Kilian could have cut the deficit in the 78th minute, as the teams reached the final ten minutes, with Huesca attempting to put pressure on Las Palmas and get back into the match, with the home team slowing things down and looking to catch their rivals on the break. The visitors claimed a penalty for handball in the yellows’ area, while Kilian finally got a goal back in time added on, to make it 2-1, but there was no time for any more action.

So in the end, a 2-1 victory and a 4-3 aggregate, and Las Palmas will be in the RFEF hat to see who they will come up against in the last 16 of this knockout tournament.
