UD Las Palmas have once again won three successive matches in the league as they overcame CD Numancia 3-1. It was an exciting triumph for the yellows as they move to within two points of the play-off places. Las Palmas came out of the blocks as they looked to respond to pre-match expectations. They took control of the ball and created danger around the away side’s area without too much opposition.

A shot into the side netting by Pedri and a well-placed effort by Benito Ramírez were the first attempts on goal by the home side. Numancia looked solid in defence and tried to keep Jonathan Viera as far from the ball as possible. The away side also threatened Las Palmas’ goal on several occasions. In one such foray, Deivid managed to block the ball on the goal line to avoid the home side going behind.

Following a set-piece, a free kick taken by Benito Ramírez, a penalty was awarded to Las Palmas for handball in the area by Kako. Jonathan Viera, managed to squeeze the ball past the away goalkeeper who got his hand to the ball as it went in (min. 26). Pepe Mel’s men were looking good. Their defence looked solid and there was always a player pressurizing a Numancia player, eager to break up their play and set up a counter attack. In the 36th minute, Juanjo Narváez hit a sweet shot from the edge of the box to put his side two goals to the good.

In the second half, UD Las Palmas continued to dominate against Numancia who attempted to push forward, but were unconvincing. Las Palmas nearly extended their lead through a cross shot by Alberto de la Bella, a header by Eric Curbelo, and two long range efforts by Pedri. In the 73rd minute, Jonathan Viera was once again on the score sheet with his side’s third goal and his tenth of the season, latching on to a rebound off the goalkeeper. With ten minutes remaining, a free kick by Escassi gave the away team a consolation goal, and the final whistle went with a convincing 3-1 home win for Las Palmas.
