Las Palmas achieves an encouraging victory in Córdoba (1-3)
The first victory of the season for UD Las Palmas (1-3) arrived at the Arcángel stadium. García Fernández's players secured the three points in a match where they displayed verticality and precision in offensive play, combined with a high level of defensive security.
The goals for Gran Canaria were scored by Serbian Lukovic, youth player Ale García, and defender Enrique Clemente, the latter after a run from his own half to make it 0-3 on the scoreboard.
The match began with a scare in the visitors' area. At 3 minutes, it was Enrique Clemente who prevented the 1-0 after a previous play where the ball had been left loose in the area. Carracedo's shot was ultimately blocked by the timely defender from Zaragoza on the goal line.
Las Palmas needed a few minutes to connect their attacking pieces and establish the necessary order to keep the ball away from Dinko Horkas. It was debutant Lukovic who was the first yellow player to approach the Andalusian area with danger. At 12 minutes, he received a pass from Manu Fuster, and the Serbian's low shot was also saved in extremis by goalkeeper Marín, deflecting it to a corner.
García Fernández's players had fully entered the match after the initial uncertainty. In the following minutes, their combinations posed a threat to Córdoba. The local goalkeeper saved a shot from Jeremía Recoba near the post in the 15th minute. But Marín could do nothing when the 0-1 came in the 19th minute, scored by Milos Lukovic. The Serbian showed Manu Fuster a run to receive the ball and crossed it as Marín began his approach.
The 0-1 encouraged Las Palmas to grow in their approach and protect themselves from Córdoba's attacks, which tried to restore balance on the scoreboard with a more direct style of play. The yellows managed to reach the break with an advantage on the scoreboard, not without creating some more threatening actions in attack. García and Fuster tried with shots that went close to the post and were controlled by the goalkeeper, respectively.
Las Palmas continued with their game plan in the second half, with Ale García extending the lead in another impeccable play that combined speed and precision. The assist for the 0-2 came from Serbian Milos Lukovic, placing the ball vertically for his teammate to score his second goal of the season.
That score did not calm the Gran Canaria team. García could have scored again in the 66th minute with a wide cross-shot. And in the 72nd minute, the referee disallowed a shot into the net by Marc Cardona for offside.
The best goal of the night was yet to come, scored by Enrique Clemente. It was the 82nd minute when the player from Aragón started from his own half with determination, leaving several defenders behind to reach the area alone and cross the ball past goalkeeper Marín.
In the final moments, Córdoba reduced the score with a play by Fuentes, but Jonathan Viera could have scored again with a free-kick that hit the crossbar. It would have been a sweet touch to his return to the league.
