Kirian: "I have medical and competitive clearance."
Kirian announced this Thursday, on the eve of the match against Real Sociedad, that he has been medically and competitively cleared after overcoming an oncological process, which will allow him to resume his activity as a professional footballer.
Kirian Rodríguez announced this Thursday that he has received medical and competitive clearance. The yellow team player, smiling in the press room of the Gran Canaria Stadium, shared his satisfaction: "I have the clearance. I looked in the mirror and saw my body again."
The midfielder explained that in May he had to undergo an autotransplant and remain hospitalized for 25 days: "They recommended 100 days of rest, which didn’t happen because on the first day I was training in Barranco Seco with the appropriate precautions. From there, I participated with the group, who helped me by acting as a wildcard. They were respectful and careful," he recounted.
As the weeks went by, he began to regain sensations. "My body has been responding better. Now I’m joining the group dynamics, with a clear mind thinking that I can go into challenges and duels. From here, it will be up to the coaches to assess when I can be ready," he stated, asking for patience: "They are more than qualified. They will monitor me week by week, and when the time comes, the coach will be the first to put me back in."
Kirian admitted that he wasn’t always sure about his return: "Until yesterday, I didn’t have the desire to play again, I didn’t have the excitement to wear the Las Palmas jersey. When I got the clearance from my hematologist, I felt that maybe I could have a bit of desire. Today I’ve felt it, and I hope to feel much more soon."
During his appearance, he was accompanied by councilors Nicolás Ortega and Rafael Méndez, general director Patricio Viñayo, and members of the coaching staff. He had a special mention for Elías, a child going through a similar situation: "I promised him that the jersey from my debut will be for him."
Looking ahead, he revealed that on Monday he will start a coaching course "in case one day I have to decide to step away." Regarding the team, he assured that he sees them on the right track: "Dominating in the Second Division is very complicated, but the guys are very committed. The day will come when the goals start coming in, and we’ll see the UD Las Palmas that is being worked on."
Kirian concluded with a personal commitment: "I hope the Kirian that people know reappears. I’m going to push myself to the maximum to come back again and see how far I can go. I’ll ask people to wait for another Kirian."
