Iván Gil drives the first home victory of UD with his goals (2-1)
UD Las Palmas delivered a victory this Friday to the 17,899 fans who attended the Estadio de Gran Canaria for the fifth matchday (2-1). Iván Gil was the standout star of the match against Real Sociedad B, with his two goals and inspiration in the offensive plays of the yellows.
Friday's match had a frenetic start, with very clear chances in both penalty areas. Las Palmas was the first to create danger through Marvin Park with just 3 minutes of play. The Balearic player sprinted down his lane to deliver a ball into the area, but Milos Lukovic failed to execute the shot accurately, sending it over the crossbar.
Just two minutes later, the protagonist of the night, Iván Gil, struck powerfully in the heart of the area. But a defender from San Sebastián placed his leg in the trajectory and prevented further trouble for his goalkeeper Arana.
There was no respite then. Real Sociedad B responded almost immediately, with two attempts that left the local players shaken. Ekain Orobenga shot across, sending the ball wide next to a post, out of Horkas' reach. Later, his teammate Mariezkurrena, in the 14th minute, broke through the central lane to send a lob that hit the crossbar before the ball fell into Horkas' hands.
The pace of events slowed as the minutes passed. The defensive consistency of the locals, through possession that reached 71.8% by halftime, made the game rely on doses of patience. Lukovic was unable to control two good deep passes in the best attempts before, in the 38th minute, the opening goal arrived.
The 1-0 was the work of Iván Gil, connecting a shot in the heart of the area. However, the credit for the preceding action went to his teammate Fran Pejiño. The player from Barbate received a pass from Loiodice to start a slalom toward the area, reaching the byline. From there, he delivered a perfect ball for Gil to score his first goal at the Gran Canaria.
Las Palmas repeated their good sensations at the start of the second half. Goalkeeper Egoitz Arana made a great save on a point-blank shot from Amatucci, who had entered the area with determination. But in the 47th minute, he could do nothing against another missile from Iván Gil, who from outside the area raised the score to 2-0 in favor of the islanders.
Everything was going smoothly. However, Las Palmas wanted more. Viera and Marc Cardona, substitutes from the bench, enjoyed their chances, which were denied by Arana and a missed shot, respectively.
Real B's goal came in the final moments, after a corner play successfully finished by Balda. However, the score would not change again, and the well-deserved victory was celebrated by the yellow players and fans.
