Diego Martínez: “I believe in the team and in the work they do day in and day out”
The yellow team’s coach emphasized the importance of the upcoming match against Rayo, saying: “There are four games left, and we’re fully fighting to achieve our dream of staying up, something that seemed impossible back in October. We’re still in it, though it’s tough.”
Diego Martínez spoke at a press conference this Thursday, ahead of tomorrow’s match against Rayo Vallecano at Estadio Gran Canaria. “I hope we can get the three points and beat a very tough, complex opponent — fast, with a great coach and players that will challenge us physically,” he said about the visitors.
These were some of his statements:
“The team has shown it can play different kinds of matches, and I think that’s what has allowed us to get those eight wins and draws. That’s what’s keeping us in the fight at this stage.”
“Often, we forget where we’ve come from. Hopefully, we can win all four of these remaining matches. We’re still in the fight, with the second-lowest budget in the league. Let’s hope we can keep doing the good things we’ve shown during matches.”
“If there’s one thing we have, it’s commitment. There were times when our desire to impress or to win backfired on us. It’s not about the game plan — it’s just that things weren’t working out. What we want is to take the lead, win the match, and score earlier in games.”
“Sometimes we confuse effort with execution. The will to win has always been there. But if we’re far from our best version, like we were in the first half against Valencia, then it’s very hard to win matches.”
