La Liga begins for UD with an euphoric victory sealed in stoppage time (2-1)

UD Las Palmas began the 2026-27 League with an exciting victory, defeating Albacete Balompié (2-1) this Sunday at the Estadio de Gran Canaria. Jesé scored first in the 20th minute, but in the final moments of regulation time, Albacete managed to equalize through San Bartolomé. When it seemed the match was heading for a draw, Sandro Ramírez secured the winning goal in stoppage time, assisted by debutant Elías Romero.

It was a hard-fought victory, as demanded by such a competitive category. The island team came close to scoring early, just a minute and a half into the game, with a move by Manu Fuster, who himself finished by hitting the post of the goal defended by Mariño. Fuster shot again a few minutes later with a high strike.

The first setback of the season also came early, as Marvin Park requested a substitution after getting injured in the 8th minute. De la Barrera reshaped the local defense by placing debutant Bonfanti on the left flank, repositioning Valentín Pezzolesi on the right side.

After that event, the local team experienced moments of uncertainty but quickly regained their dominance and scored the 1-0 in the 20th minute. Jesé's goal was a collective effort with quick passes, finished by the striker after an assist from Miyashiro.

UD Las Palmas sent a second ball into Mariño's net in the 38th minute. However, the goal was disallowed due to Jesé—the scorer—being in an offside position at the start of the play.

The match took a turn in the second half when the visiting team advanced their positions and disrupted the local team's initial plays. Las Palmas moved further away from Mariño's goal and significantly lost control of the game. Albacete had chances to equalize with several dangerous shots that Caro managed to stop.

The game entered a suspenseful phase in the second half, although young debutant Rafa Cruz could have resolved it moments after coming on with a header that went over the crossbar. The play was set up by his teammate Miyashiro.

However, just minutes before the end, the equalizer came in a scrappy play in the box after several corners. The ball fell to Bernabéu, who fired it in from close range to level the score.

The final push from the yellows was still to come, and it was Sandro Ramírez who sealed it with his goal in extra time. The forward picked up a ball, linked up with Elías, and finished with a cross-shot, sending the 18,087 spectators at the Estadio de Gran Canaria into a frenzy.
