Rubén de la Barrera: "The challenge and the main motivation is to play at home again."

The coach of UD Las Palmas, Rubén de la Barrera, spoke to the media at the Barranco Seco Sports City, where he analyzed the current situation of the yellow team before facing Real Valladolid this Sunday in the eighth round of LALIGA HYPERMOTION.

The yellow coach reviewed the current state of the team after last weekend's defeat against SD Eibar and focused on the aspects to improve ahead of the next match at the Estadio Gran Canaria.

De la Barrera also analyzed the characteristics of Real Valladolid and the challenges posed by the blanquivioleta team, in addition to addressing the preparation for the match and the keys for the team to secure three points again.

Regarding the match against Valladolid, the yellow coach stated:

“We are facing a team that is also different from what we have been doing, a team that crowds the middle, threatens the area, and plays on the wings. This will challenge us both defensively and offensively, but I believe the main challenge and motivation is playing at home again, reconnecting with our best version, and, of course, ensuring that all of this allows us to win.

These were some of his statements:

“The start of the match must prevent us from being two goals down by the 10th minute. Especially against teams that capitalize on your mistakes as a clear way to win matches.”

“There are counterattack situations that sometimes result from unforced errors and other times are caused by the opponent's pressure. What matters here is that when we press, we truly press and do it well, without any fear. Because when insecurities arise, problems occur.”

“Winning is always positive. At the same time, it would mean breaking a streak that we don't like from these last two defeats and, on the other hand, starting a cycle through that victory where the points and results place us where we want to be in the standings.”

“We have to deal with a series of absences, and those are opportunities for others. These opportunities are also somewhat related to the type of match you expect or where you want to take it.”

“Both will contribute. What matters here is delivering performance.”

Regarding Elías, he added: “He is a player who personally conveys hunger, desire, will, and determination, and his moment will surely come.”

Finally, the yellow coach once again expressed his confidence in the academy players and their ability to seize opportunities when the team needs them:

“Of course. I put the boys on the field for more or less time, but I put them on. If I see that something can help us, especially at a time when we need it, I will do it.”
