Pepe Mel revealed his squad prior to attending to the media, and in relation to the players making the trip, he said “we could have done things differently, but it is the professionals who need to stand up and be counted”, explaining why he hadn’t selected the second team players who had been training with the first team.

“They are opponents who do things properly, their trainer has pulled the right strings in his team” he said concerning rivals Granada, and added: “they are hard to score against and have some great individual players”. Mel is confident in his team however, and despite acknowledging last week’s defeat against Mallorca knocked them back a bit, stated “UD Las Palmas has the footballers to do things right”.

The manager, with reference to declarations made by President Miguel Ángel Ramírez, went on to say “the players are training as I want them to, and they do as I ask. I cannot talk about what went on before I arrived at the club. If I continue at Las Palmas I will say where we can make improvements”.
