UD Las Palmas gained a point in Alcorcón thanks to a goal by Fede Varela. The yellows deserved more in a game that had few goal-scoring chances. Benito Ramírez stepped in at left back in place of the injured De la Bella. Galarreta was back in the anchor role alongside Javi Castellano leaving the wings free for Aridai and Pedri. On this occasion Fede Varela took a central midfield role in place of Juanjo Narváez, contrary to what Pepe Mel had announced. At the back Mantovani came in for the hobbling Aythami Artiles, the Las Palmas captain taking his place on the bench as he tries to shake off his physical problems. These were the main changes to Las Palmas’ first team line-up.

Las Palmas came into the game at the Santo Domingo stadium keen to break two runs; firstly, to get a win in one of their bogey stadiums, and secondly pick up their first three-point haul in 2020 following an eight match winless run. The away side took the lead in the 11th minute through Fede Varela. A good low cross in from Aridai was tapped in at the back post by the midfielder on loan from Leganés. Alcorcón had started the match more brightly with several strong attacks on the goal defended by Álvaro Valles.

Pepe Mel was forced into his first change after 20 minutes due to injury to Galarreta. Fabio took over in midfield. Alcorcón could have equalised with an effort by Stoichkov that came back off the post (min. 23). Once again VAR was at the centre of controversy with a penalty shout for Las Palmas that was not awarded by referee Areces Franco. The home side did draw level however in the 35th minute through Arribas. Before half time, both Rubén Castro and Varela came close to restoring the away side’s lead.

Las Palmas took the initiative in the second half and got on top against Alcorcón. Tana came on for the injured Fede Varela. Pedri became more involved and Alcorcón began to feel the pressure in defence. The game was evenly matched in terms of effort and the game could have tipped either way. While the home side opted for the long ball, Las Palmas tried all they could to play the ball on the ground towards the home goal defended by Jiménez. Rubén Castro did have the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside, leaving the final score 1-1 and points shared.
