From the initial whistle, it was clear that the match was going to be challenging. UD Las Palmas struggled to find their footing in the game against an opponent that took control of the ball (62% possession at halftime) and quickly created moments of uncertainty.

In the opening minutes, there were several scares for the yellows against a threatening opponent. Álvaro Morata broke away from the center-backs in the 1st minute, sprinted into the box, and shot wide.
