Deportivo de La Coruña had less possession than Las Palmas but their two goals were enough to give them victory, as they were cheered on by a roaring crowd. Pepe Mel reshuffled his defence with three centre backs. The away side were missing several players, the most important being Benito Ramírez and Javi Castellano, both out through suspension. Las Palmas were facing the in-form side over the last month. Deportivo de La Coruña’s confidence has been sky high since the arrival of ex-Las Palmas manager Fernando Vázquez, and had won their previous four matches.

Las Palmas made life difficult for Depor in the early stages with Srnic bursting forward on several occasions. Rubén Castro (min. 10) fired over following a good cross by the Serbian midfielder. Two minutes later, Rubén Castro again came close, with a low drive to the right of the outstretched hand of Depor’s goalkeeper. The home side then forced a free kick through pressure on Eric Curbelo which led to the first goal of the afternoon. Sabin Merino headed home to make the score 1-0 (min. 18).

Pepe Mel reshuffled his pack in the 32nd minute, bringing on Juanjo Narváez in place of Eric Curbelo. Las Palmas were trailing against a Deportivo side who looked to capitalise on their opponent’s errors and counter. Las Palmas had the greater possession, but the home side stood firm in defence, buoyed by great home support.

A fine shot from outside the box by Mauricio Lemos was scrambled past the post by Dani Jiménez. Towards the end of the first half Las Palmas pushed forward and laid siege on Deportivo and deserved to draw level.

Las Palmas continued to remain on top in the second half. Tana sent a warning shot from a tight angle. An away goal for Las Palmas (today playing in a red kit) seemed a matter of time, and it duly arrived in the form of an own goal (min. 67). An attempted clearance by Somma from a cross from the right flew beyond Dani Giménez and into the net (1-1). Deportivo restored their lead in another break, with Bóveda heading home in the 64th minute. The final whistle blew with defeat in Riazor and Las Palmas losing ground on the promotion places.
