Las Palmas Miss a Penalty and Fall to Getafe (1-2)

The first three points of 2025 slipped away as UD Las Palmas suffered a 1-2 defeat against Getafe in a match that also marked the end of the first half of the league season. The yellow team gave their all on the pitch in pursuit of victory or at least a draw. But luck wasn’t on their side. Fabio Silva had the chance to open the scoring but missed a penalty in the 55th minute. Getafe capitalized with two goals that made the afternoon an uphill battle. Januzaj’s strike for 1-2 sparked hope, but an equalizer never came.

Las Palmas quickly realized it was going to be a challenging match. Their play was disrupted by Getafe’s high pressing lines, which started as early as Cillessen’s goal area. The first major chance came from the visitors, who managed a shot by Aleñá just wide of the post after forcing a turnover.

This early warning heightened Las Palmas’ awareness, knowing they needed to fight for every ball. At the 15-minute mark, Fabio Silva managed the home team’s first shot, but his effort was hindered by close marking.

The match turned into a battle across the pitch, with constant duels for possession. At the half-hour mark, Las Palmas counterattacked after a steal, allowing Kirian to test his shot, but Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria, made the save.

As the minutes ticked by with little significant action, the score remained 0-0 at halftime. Diego Martínez made adjustments during the break, introducing Manu Fuster and reshuffling the defense.

Las Palmas started the second half with renewed energy. Alberto Moleiro forced Soria into action with a powerful shot in the 48th minute. Just eight minutes later, Sandro was fouled by Alderete, earning a penalty. However, Fabio Silva’s strike lacked power, and Soria managed to save it in two attempts.

The missed penalty was a huge setback, but the fans rallied behind the young Portuguese striker, who seemed visibly shaken by the miss.

Things went from bad to worse for Las Palmas in the 70th minute when Getafe took the lead. Coba headed in a cross from Peter Federico, leaving the home team with an uphill battle.

The match reached a frantic climax. Getafe doubled their lead with a goal by Borja Mayoral. Las Palmas responded with an all-out attack, and Januzaj managed to pull one back just before the 90th minute. In stoppage time, Kirian and Moleiro had two great opportunities to level the score, but Soria stood firm, denying both efforts.
