UD begins second half of the season with a defeat at the Bernabéu (4-1)

UD Las Palmas suffered another defeat this Sunday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (4-1) in the opening match of the second half of the 2024-25 La Liga season. Fans from Gran Canaria present at the venue were briefly hopeful after an early goal by Fabio Silva, but Real Madrid turned the game around, showcasing their strong offensive prowess led by Mbappé and Rodrygo.

The match began with a flurry of chances and an incredibly early goal for UD Las Palmas. Just 26 seconds into the game, in the first offensive maneuver by the yellow team, Fabio Silva found the back of Courtois' net. It was a sharp play initiated by Moleiro, extended by Sandro from the left, and finished by the Portuguese striker from close range. Silva, who had also scored in the visit to FC Barcelona, became the early star of the afternoon.

Las Palmas entered the field with determination and a key tactical adjustment in their lineup. Coach Diego Martínez opted to push Mika Mármol forward to cover the absence of the suspended Essugo, while bringing back Alex Muñoz as a left-back.

Real Madrid missed their first chance in the second minute with a shot by Brahim hitting the side netting. Fabio Silva had another opportunity shortly after, connecting with a pass from Moleiro, but his shot went over the bar.

The match began to shift momentum. After several attempts, the home side, vying to maintain their lead in the standings, equalized through a penalty. Sandro Ramírez fouled Rodrygo in the box, and Mbappé converted the spot-kick in the 17th minute.

Cillessen made several crucial saves to deny shots from Brahim, Mbappé (from outside the box), and Rodrygo before the half-hour mark. However, the game turned decisively within just three minutes as Real Madrid scored twice through Brahim and Mbappé.

The referee disallowed another goal from Mbappé before halftime due to offside. Real Madrid’s fourth goal came in the second half, courtesy of Rodrygo.

The match officials and VAR collaborated to annul two more Real Madrid goals: one from Bellingham for an initial offside by Rüdiger, and another from Valverde due to the same infraction by Vázquez.

By then, the game was effectively over, as any chance of a comeback for Las Palmas was further hindered by Benito’s red card with 30 minutes still to play.
