Las Palmas did not deserve to lose in Girona. A second half penalty by Stuani was enough for the Catalonian side to pick up the three points. Jonathan Viera pulled on a Las Palmas shirt once more in an official match. The long-awaited debut by the Gran Canarian midfielder, on loan from Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan until January, shone through in the yellows' play. It was clear that Pepe Mel's side would step up a level in class, although Viera did show a lack of match fitness due to his injury. He was substituted early in the second half.

Martín Mantovani was back in the starting line-up in place of Aythami Artiles, forming a central defensive partnership with Mauricio Lemos. Drolé was also relegated to the bench with respect to the team that started the last match against Sporting de Gijón.

Las Palmas had several chances to score. Jonathan Viera fired wide, while Srnic had two shots from the edge of the box which home goalkeeper Juan Carlos saved well, and then a header by Columbian forward Narváez was too weak to trouble him. Narváez was one of the best players on the pitch. Stuani had a chance for the home side. The yellows enjoyed greater possession and scoring chances in the first half, and just lacked the killer touch.

Girona stepped up a gear in the second half and Las Palmas enjoyed less possession. Jonathan Viera had also left the field of play, and soon after came the move for the penalty with Álvaro Lemos handling the ball in the box. Stuani stepped up from 12 yards to put his side ahead 1-0 (min. 63).

Pepe Mel decided to go for broke by bringing on the attacking duo of Juan Fernández and Thomas Pekhart. In the 78th minute the VAR ruled out a goal by Marc Gual for offside. Las Palmas kept their hopes of an equaliser alive. Josep Martínez blocked a header by Stuani with four minutes to go. The last few moments provided plenty of excitement with both goalkeepers producing fine saves. Josep made another great stop to keep out a shot by Samu Sáiz and then Juan Carlos stretched to turn a cross shot by Drolé behind for a corner. Las Palmas kept going to the end with some hopeful long balls and crosses, but in the end went down to their first away defeat of the season.
