Las Palmas closes the first half with a draw and a direct promotion position (1-1)
The first half of the 2025-26 season ended with a draw (1-1) against Deportivo de la Coruña. UD Las Palmas delivered an excellent performance to the 25,193 spectators who attended the Estadio de Gran Canaria, earning a point that allows them to reach the halfway mark of the competition in a direct promotion position.
Jesé Rodríguez scored again and also sent another ball to the post. Jonathan Viera missed a penalty, with the goalkeeper's save and the crossbar in a match where the yellows reacted to the goal against scored by Villares.
Cristian Gutiérrez was the final solution adopted by the yellow coach to replace the suspended Clemente, as the only change compared to the starting eleven that won in Zaragoza. And it was precisely Cristian who launched the first local attack just seconds into the game.
UD Las Palmas approached the match with intensity, trying to impose their rhythm and play in such an important encounter. Jesé was close to scoring the first goal in the 14th minute, after several mutual attacks. The forward finished with a shot to the post after a beautiful play between Viera (a backheel pass in depth) and Manu Fuster (a header control and pass to the striker).
It was Deportivo who found the 0-1 first, with a previous play by Yeremay that Horkas deflected to a corner. But in the next action, Villares scored with a bicycle kick at the far post.
Half an hour in, the equalizer could have been restored when Jesé was fouled for a penalty in the Galician area. Viera took the shot, but goalkeeper Ferllo deflected it with the help of the crossbar. He also had time to stop the second shot by Mika Mármol.
All these events did not discourage the island players or their fans. Las Palmas maintained the same approach until finally, the equalizing goal came through a strike by the insatiable Jesé Rodríguez. The Gran Canarian striker turned and connected with a cross from Amatucci, sending the ball out of the visiting goalkeeper's reach.
The match maintained its intensity in the second half, although chances were not as abundant. Both goalkeepers made notable saves from close-range shots by Ale García and Stoichkov, in that order, in the best opportunities before the hour mark.
The chances decreased in number during a second half with greater caution, which ultimately ended in a draw after an intense battle.
