UD Las Palmas keep their winning run going and achieved their fifth successive match this evening. Tonight they beat CD Castellón in the first round of the Spanish Cup (0-2). The first half was goalless at the historic Estadio Municipal de Castalia, which had a good crowd in to watch the match. The early exchanges were dominated by CD Castellón. UD Las Palmas put out a completely different side to the one that beat Elche at the weekend, and gradually forced their way back into the tie by getting hold of the ball for longer periods.

The difference in category was not that noticeable and neither goalkeeper was stretched as no clear cut chances were created. Mel's side began to apply pressure down the right wing. Second team winger Pablo Haro, who was making his first-team debut tonight, tried to set up chances on several occasions, but couldn't find anyone to get on the end of his crosses.

This cup tie enabled Mel to take a look at some of his squad who were not regular first team players. They responded to the call and took the game to their rivals. Kirian was at the heart of Las Palmas' attacking moves. He moved the ball around with confidence and got the ball forward quickly, although nobody was able to make it count in the area. The home side concentrated on not making too many mistakes.

The game was an even affair after the break. There were few goal-mouth incidents, as both side lost possession time and again. In the 70th minute things suddenly changed when Juan Fernández put the away side ahead. The Catalonian striker was quick to pick up a rebound from the goalkeeper after a powerful shot by Maikel Mesa. In the previous piece of action, Josep Martínez saved a one on one with Calavera when  half of Castalia were about to celebrate a goal. Las Palmas put the tie beyond reach four minutes later with a second goal by Maikel Mesa.
