Jonathan Viera: "Everyone's trust in me being here has been key to taking on this challenge"
The player from Gran Canaria stated during his presentation that he comes "with the goal of helping everyone: the club and the young players to grow."
Jonathan Viera was officially presented to the media at the Ciudad Deportiva on Sunday morning, following the announcement of his signing as a new UD Las Palmas player. Luis Helguera, the club’s sporting director, said that with his arrival, “we believe he can give us a significant boost in quality.”
In this new chapter with the yellow team, Viera stated that he comes “with the goal of helping everyone: the club and the youngsters. They come with a lot of excitement and energy.”
Regarding how his return came about, the midfielder explained, “Surely many things have changed, we've had conversations. The club and the coach told me what they want, and in the end, it was just a matter of reaching an agreement. Obviously, I’m not 20 anymore for certain things. The talks were calm, and all parties reached an agreement because we all want what’s best for the club.”
These were some of his statements:
“The season is very long, and time will tell what we’re ready for when the important moments come,” Viera said, adding, “I want to enjoy myself and help the team, help everyone grow. It’s an exciting and beautiful year—I believe everything will go well.”
“If I thought I wasn’t capable of helping, I wouldn’t be here. There was a moment when I thought about not playing anymore. That pressure I put on myself made it hard to enjoy the game. Now we’re in a very exciting and positive stage.”
“I know this could be the last stage. This is my team, my home, my people. I’m a bit nervous. I want to make myself available to the coach and enjoy it. Physically, I have to get ready, but I think the preseason is more than enough to get in shape.”
“The reaction and thoughts of the people are normal—I understand all opinions. There’s only one way to change that, and it’s on the field.”
“We have a young coach, full of excitement and desire. I think he has a great future ahead, and hopefully it will be here at Las Palmas.”
