"Álvaro Valles, the goalie with the most unbeaten minutes in our history."
With 580 minutes without conceding a goal, Alvaro Valles surpassed the mark set three decades ago by Jose Miguel Robayna.
Álvaro Valles, the current starting goalkeeper for UD Las Palmas, matched on Friday a record that has remained under the signature of the Lanzarotean goalkeeper for thirty years. The "Valterra’s cat" kept his goal clean in six consecutive games during the regular season of the 1992-93 Second Division B League.
Valles contributes to UD Las Palmas sealing this achievement of six consecutive games without conceding a goal in the Second Division, thus prolonging their unbeaten run for 580 minutes in League matches. The last goal against was scored in matchday 24 by CD Mirandes player Roberto Lopez. Since then, there have been 40 minutes and six complete games with a clean sheet in their goal.
In the history of UD Las Palmas, there are many partial stretches of zero goals conceded by their opponents. After the 0-0 draw at the Estadio Nacional de Andorra, Alvaro Valles left his mark with several relevant moments of defensive solidity for the team. These include Manolo Lopez's 495 unbeaten minutes in the 1995-96 season (promotion playoffs), the 540 minutes signed by Serbian Zeljko Cicovic in the 2004-05 season (in Second Division B), or the one starred by Jose Luis Ulacia in the 1961-62 season with 501 unbeaten minutes (Second Division A).
In addition, with the current 580 minutes, Alvaro Valles surpasses the mark set three decades ago by the aforementioned Jose Miguel Robayna. Between the 3-3 draw in matchday 29 against Balompédica Linense and the 2-4 victory in the Colombino de Huelva in matchday 36, Jose Miguel kept his goal clean for 574 minutes as the starting goalkeeper, after conceding the first goal by Perico Medina in the 19th minute.
All of this takes place in the background of a team that is continuing to make history for the club as it progresses through the Second Division: 19 clean sheets in 30 matchdays.
