UD lets victory slip away in the final minutes (1-1)

UD Las Palmas returns from their tortuous trip to Ceuta with a draw (1-1), although they came close to victory until the 88th minute. The yellows took the lead with a goal scored by the left-footed Enrique Clemente, but in the final stretch, Matos equalized with a splendid shot that goalkeeper Caro could not stop.

The match began with a scare for the visiting team, as Ceuta's first attack ended with a low shot from Marcos Fernández that Marvin Park stopped near the goal line. That incident, without consequences, alerted the yellows to the danger posed by one of the best local teams in the championship.

Las Palmas took a few minutes to connect with the ball, pieces, and areas of the field without the first approaches ending in shots. The visitors' first chance came in the 20th minute, with a header from Sergio Barcia that goalkeeper Vallejo saved on the goal line. It was the result of a corner play.

The game already had 60% possession for the yellows, although the noise in Ceuta's area failed to make an impact. The next dangerous actions from the yellows came in the final minutes of the first half, with a high shot from Jesé and a cross from Viti Rozada, from the byline, that found no finisher.

The match reached halftime without any changes on the scoreboard, although there was a sense that something could happen at any moment. That goal came at the start of the second half in a meticulously crafted play. Viera initiated it to load the play on the left, with a final pass from Amatucci and a precise shot from Enrique Clemente, striking the ball with power and accuracy. The left-footed defender from Aragon thus scored his third goal of the season.

Las Palmas then had a few more chances to extend the lead, but in the final stretch, the 1-1 came with an extraordinary goal from the edge of the area by Ceuta's Matos, which goalkeeper Caro could not stop.

The island team seemed to feel the great effort made not only during the match but also during the trip to Ceuta, with the unsuccessful attempt to postpone the game that was not granted.
