The UD Las Palmas players quickly understood the defensive suggestion made by CD Teruel, a squad that described other Second Division League adversaries of the yellow squad. In order to prevent the Grancanarios from playing their associative game, the cup rival likewise deployed a final line of five defenders. García Pimienta's players were compelled to search for openings while taking control of the match's proceedings, which appeared to be an extension of earlier ones.

The island's greatest chance of the first half came early, but Alvaro Jiménez missed the goal. At minute seven, Jiménez was in position to overtake goalie Cebollada after receiving a deep ball from Sidnei. However, he was unable to establish the direction of the soft parabolic shot.

At 12 minutes, Teruel's answer was made of set parts. Edu Cabetas, the center defender, converted a left-wing corner with his head. The ball, though, struck the crossbar and flew past the baseline.

Las Palmas got the warning, but it had little effect on the confrontation that led to the match. Other shots from Alvaro Jiménez, Oscar Clemente, and Pejiño followed till the break.

In a Cup game where Joel del Pino and Julen Pérez first stood for the official team picture in a match of the professional squad, the scoreboard was still intact at halftime. It quickly became 0-1, thanks to Pejiño. In the front of the box, Moleiro spotted his teammate, and the Barbadian decided to take a shot with his left foot, post-adjusted.

The first goal was scored by Las Palmas in the 55th minute, but Fran Carmona's header was stopped by Dominguez following another clever play.

Later, García Pimienta had to relieve Sandro, who had requested the changeover owing to physical issues. It was worrying news, especially because the post had denied a shot by Lemos and the goalkeeper Cebolllada had also saved another effort by Moleiro during a period of the game in which Las Palmas was aiming to secure the victory.

Alvaro Lemos missed a chance to score 0-2 in the dying minutes after failing to direct his shot at the home goalie.
