Pako Ayestarán: "I have always identified with Las Palmas’ style of play"

Sports director Toni Cruz said in Pako Ayestarán’s presentation, that in this new situation that had not happened at UD Las Palmas since the sacking of Paco Herrera in the 2015/16 season, but that the profile of a new trainer was perfectly clear the moment Manolo Márquez handed in his resignation: "someone with the ability to communicate and who knew the league inside out. We are absolutely convinced we have made the right decision", he stressed.

Ayestarán said,"We’ve had approaches from abroad, but we knew we had to hold out for an offer here because we wanted to manage a club in Spain. One of my priorities has been to manage UD Las Palmas. It is a special club, and with a playing style I have always identified with". 

"Canary players have technical and tactical characteristics that favour the passing game, and the youth players will be knocking on the first team door", he pointed out.

In terms of his footballing philosophy, Ayestarán stated that "all trainers have their preferences, but from that point on you need to adapt to the players you’ve got”. Regarding next Sunday’s clash against Barcelona in the Camp Nou, he said "to win there you have to cover every single detail, and be a bit lucky too".
