The trainer gave a few clues as to his starting line-up against Valencia, his team’s first league rival this season. “Callieri will be starting”, and regarding the goalkeepers he said “I don’t know as yet, I need to talk to both Raúl and Leandro”.

With reference to their rivals, Márquez pointed out that “Valencia are a pacy, ordered team, and tactically well-drilled”. Recalling the words of rival manager Marcelino, “it is a smallish squad, and in their last few pre-season games they have used nearly all the same players”.

On a personal note, he talked of his excitement, “especially making my debut in a stadium like Mestalla, a lovely ground, and with fans who demanding of their team”.

With reference to the departure of key player Prince, he said “I found out about the news a few days ago, there are things that come before football. He wasn’t properly focused, he tried hard, but he was distracted. It has affected us in human terms, but his position is well covered.”

The trainer made his comments at the press room at El Hornillo Sports Complex, on the eve of the clash tomorrow evening at 21:15 Canary time between Las Palmas and Valencia in Mestalla.
