"We need to pick ourselves up and carry on" were the words of the Catalonian trainer, at the end of the heavy defeat against Atlético de Madrid, and according to him "1-5 was really over the top, we could have made more inroads".

Regarding his team's first few minutes on the pitch tonight, he said: "there is no lack of attitude, I don't like to pick out individuals, the first goals came on the rebound, and against a team like Atlético it costs you dear". Referring to the debut by Fabio Gonzalez he pointed out: "I've got the feeling I am the only one who believes in Fabio", adding"he played the first sixty minutes because he wouldn't have lasted the whole game at the pace it was being played, he's had a good game".

Regarding his defence he stressed "there is so much we have to work on, it seems we not at all sure of what we have to do, but it is an error in the system and not any one player". When his team pulled a goal back the UD Las Palmas said: "We were looking good on the ball, but then 1-3 put the game out of our reach".

With caution, and following a promising pre-season, he said "we shouldn't get too excited when we win, and too despondent when we lose".

These were the statements made by Manolo Márquez in the press conference following his team's defeat against Atlético de Madrid (1-5) in the first home game of the 2017/2018 season at the Estadio Gran Canaria.
