Another win, three more points. UD Las Palmas successfully dealt with the Ponferradina's visit to the Gran Canaria Stadium. Sandro scored a goal and Berciandefender Paris Adot unintentionally scored an own goal in the second half, sealing a 2-0 win in a match attended by 20,474 spectators on Sunday.
The match started with uncertainty. Despite Las Palmas taking control from the initial whistle, it was Ponferradinawho had an excellent opportunity that was thwarted by Álvaro Valles in the 8th minute. The La Rinconadagoalkeeper stopped a low shot from José Naranjo, who had managed to break through the last local defensive line. It was a close call.
Las Palmas enjoyed a better chance to score just three minutes later. Loren was fouled by defender Amo in the area. The yellow forward snatched the ball from him and was brought down by the Bercian defender. Loren took the penalty himself, but Iranian keeper Amir guessed the direction of the shot and saved it.
That unfortunate moment did not change the game plan that the yellows had prepared, with the absence of Jonathan Viera as the most noteworthy absence in the starting eleven. However, there were no more close calls during the first half. Las Palmas had possession of the ball, but their opponent organized themselves solidly, creating obstacles for the yellows to find more ways to reach Amir's box.
In the 52nd minute, Loren again livened up the local initiatives. He shot from outside the area with force, causing unease for Amir, who saw the ball pass near his goal. Minutes later, the Persian keeper securely controlled another long-range shot from Alex Suárez, who had joined the attack.
García Pimienta's players made an effort to change the pace of the game at the beginning of the second half, still without changes in the two starting line-ups. They wanted to move their central operations closer to the visiting team's area. And with that purpose in mind, the coach made changes from the bench, with the incorporations of Marc Cardona and Sandro Ramírez. And a few minutes later, Marvin Park got his turn.
And it was the bench players who this time scored the goals for the victory. In the 75th minute, Sandro placed the ball in Amir's nets after a cross from Marvin Park. And three minutes later, after a lateral foul given by Sandro himself, the ball hit Paris Adot's back and headed back towards the visiting team's goal.
After their 18th clean sheet, Las Palmas celebrated another another victory with their supporters.
