Las Palmas suffers its worst result at the Metropolitano (5-0)

It couldn't be. UD Las Palmas suffered their biggest defeat of the season this Saturday (5-0) in their visit to Atlético Madrid and their return to the Metropolitano stadium. The players of García Pimienta especially paid the price for several defensive errors during the first half, allowing Llorente to put his team ahead with a juicy 2-0 lead at halftime. Later, Correa extended the lead in the first minute of the second half, preventing any signs of an islander reaction. Correa himself, from a penalty, and Depay completed the adverse scoreline.

Las Palmas had reached the halftime break with a 2-0 deficit, which they hadn't been accustomed to in the current campaign. Those two goals were forged in unfortunate minutes, where several mistakes in the defensive zone allowed Atlético to create danger and take the lead on the scoreboard. And ultimately, determine the destination of the points at stake.

Correa squandered two chances before Marcos Llorente scored the two goals, with unstoppable shots for Valles. The 1-0 came after 14 minutes of play. The Atlético attacker found a ball that had bounced off Perrone and landed at his feet. And the 2-0, after a loss by Coco, was forged 5 minutes later. Correa regained possession and passed it to his fellow forward.

Xavi García Pimienta's team began to get a feel for the game, partially recovering from the first two blows from the opponent. This is evidenced by the possession statistic: The visitors reached halftime with 72% ball control, although they had few opportunities in the area.

The best chance for Las Palmas had come from Javi Muñoz, still at 0-0. The clock was ticking towards the 6th minute when he shot powerfully, hitting the crossbar of Oblak. With the score at 2-0, Sandro and Munir also managed to finish two yellow arrivals that failed to beat the position of the red-and-white goalkeeper.

But any sign of a reaction could be extinguished with the arrival of the 3-0, in the first minute of the second half. At the hour mark, the 4-0 came through a penalty awarded for contact with a Marvin Park opponent. Again, Correa scored, and his teammate Depay, 4 minutes from the end, completed the 5-0.

García Pimienta's players tried to score a consolation goal, but Oblak denied it, especially in a close-range shot from Javi Muñoz.

Las Palmas returns to the island and immediately focuses on their match against Osasuna.
