It took Garca Pimienta's players 24 minutes to find a crack in Racing de Santander's well-armed defence. Until then, the yellows' moves had failed to find an optimum location for the strikers' shot. The first shot came from a distance, with Fabio González's effort going beyond the crossbar of Naciente's stand.

On the 24th, though, UD reached the target as the clock struck the 24th minute. Alberto Moleiro started the play with a projection into the centre lane. The Tenerifean made contact with Pejiño, who was making a forceful right turn. When an assist ball was expected, the left-handed guy from Barbate fired a stunning right hand that pierced the Cantabrian goal.

The 24,294 people who packed the Gran Canaria stadium on Sunday erupted in celebration after Pejiño scored. Las Palmas had able to consolidate their offensive domination, with 70.4% possession in the first half.

Racing, on the other hand, proved to be a formidable competitor every time they managed to cross the middle of the pitch. The following local efforts were unsuccessful, with special mention to a play by Sergi Cardona in the 36th minute that Oscar Clemente forced a finish off.

The score at which the ceasefire was established was 1-0. Alex Dominguez also contributed to this. The visiting Mboula signed a slalom in the area in the 43rd minute of the game, which finished with a thunderous shot. However, the yellow goalkeeper's glove refused to contain the perilous situation that had arisen in front of his area.

After a few minutes of mutual tiredness and no noteworthy happenings, the supporters stood up to greet Jonathan Viera at game time. And to congratulate Moleiro on his relief.

Racing gave two more danger signals in minutes 69 and 71. Pombo took a risk and fired high. After a counterattack, Matheus Aias hit the crossbar with a shot. When Dominguez returned to the field of play without crossing the goal line, the ball assisted him.

The final score was drawn in the 85th minute. The referee, supported by the VAR Room, granted the yellows a decisive penalty. Pombo took advantage of the chance to level the game and restore balance to the scoreboard. Viera and Sandro were given new possibilities for the local squad, but the island's second goal didn't happen, and the draw was signed in the first match of the League in 2023.
