Las Palmas deserves more, but returns empty-handed from Mallorca (1-0)

Another defeat for UD Las Palmas, the eighth consecutive one, this time at the home of Real Mallorca. The yellows improved as the match progressed but failed to equalize the solitary goal by González (1-0).

However, the adverse score leaves the yellows on the brink of relegation. They will be pending the completion of the matchday or the outcome of the final three matches of the calendar.

García Pimienta assembled a starting eleven in Palma with many changes, although the most striking was the rearrangement of the defensive quartet with Araujo, Coco, Alex Suárez, and Mika Mármol from right to left. Additionally, Sory Kaba reclaimed his place in the starting lineup.

The match began with a home team pressing against a rival that couldn't control the ball as they preferred. There were scarcely any chances in the first half. The best opportunity for Las Palmas came through Javi Muñoz. The midfielder broke into the edge of the box and shot powerfully but imprecisely.

The score turned against the Canary Islands' interests after half an hour. Precisely, the 1-0 arrived when García Pimienta's players had overcome Mallorca's pressure. The goal was scored by Uruguayan Gio González, who finished off a cross from the left flank of the Balearic attack.

The Gran Canarian team didn't seem to feel the effect of that setback, and during the period until the end of the first half, they managed to combine in the opponent's half. However, halftime arrived with that score and a strange feeling of having lost possession: 61% for Mallorca against 39% for Las Palmas.

The match changed direction in the second half. The introduction of Alberto Moleiro and the other yellow substitutes breathed new life into García Pimienta's team. The danger from the Balearic team disappeared in the second half, and the action shifted to Las Palmas' attacking half.

With possession regained, Las Palmas became more incisive. The best opportunity of the afternoon fell to Moleiro. The Tenerife-born player shot with great intent towards the base of the post, but found the glove of goalkeeper Rajkovic there to deny the equalizer that the visitors had deserved.

Las Palmas tried relentlessly until the 95th minute, but couldn't find the decisive play to reward their effort.
