Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Friday, August 11, 2023 - Turismo LPA of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and FNZN, in collaboration with UD Las Palmas, have released the 'Football Nomads Guide,' bringing together the city's main tourist attractions along with all relevant information for football enthusiasts. A novel tourist guide for both visitors and residents to organize their city visit through the history and present of the beautiful game in the capital and the island.

The Football Nomads Guide for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria includes popular visits and recognized symbols of the city, such as the neighborhoods of Triana and Vegueta, Las Canteras Beach, or Columbus House, serving them alongside essential information about the Gran Canaria Stadium and other locations bearing the centennial mark of football in the island's capital.

The Insular Stadium Park, UD's historical headquarters, Plaza de España as a celebration venue, and other key places are featured, along with a history of significant football moments in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, including Las Palmas' greatest achievements in La Liga and Europe, and Spanish national team matches, among others.

The guide was unveiled on Wednesday, January 17, at the Gran Canaria Stadium, with the presence of representatives from the tourism sector, UD Las Palmas supporters' groups, and the Association of former team players.

Tourism Councillor Pedro Quevedo noted that it is "a demand and a necessity to organize and disseminate resources associated with football in a city where the beautiful game is part of its identity, history, and soul. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with a team in La Liga, sees football as an ally in promoting and positioning itself as a quality urban destination." Quevedo thanked UD Las Palmas for their collaboration, explaining that football has boosted tourist visits to the city, both from accompanying teams and European visitors staying on the island eager to attend a top-tier Spanish football match.

The Football Nomads Guide for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria comprises 112 color pages in A5 format, serving as an introduction to the destination for football enthusiasts, in a bilingual Spanish/English edition. The city's Sports Councillor, Carla Campoamor, emphasized that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria "has clearly positioned itself as a sports tourism destination" and praised this initiative as "a fundamental tool for those attracted to the city by football to better understand it." Campoamor recalled that "sports and elite athletes carrying the city's name help promote the destination significantly."

The publication, revealing to football fans everything they shouldn't miss during their visit to the city or when accompanying their team, is structured around six sections: football glory album; destination introduction; city attractions; Gran Canaria Stadium; Freak Corner; and practical guide.

UD Las Palmas General Director Patricio Viñayo said, "The guide serves as a starting point to assist visitors drawn by UD Las Palmas matches in navigating and exploring the city systematically," highlighting that the yellow club "always acts as an ambassador for the city and the island." Viñayo explained, "Football is one of the most demanded content in television worldwide, and combining such a competitive league as the Spanish with the fact that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a top-notch destination creates the perfect storm to leverage this visitor flow to boost other sectors, in this case, tourism."

Isaac Flores, FNZN Manager, stated, "At FNZN, we want to help destinations showcase football culture as one of the most powerful attractions cities have today. Our community is just beginning, and we have always been clear that we want to gather the most exotic destinations with closer ties to this sport we love. In this regard, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is as attractive a football destination as any, offering a unique experience you can only grasp when you visit."

The presentation of the guide for visiting football enthusiasts was attended by the Sports Councillor of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, Aridani Romero; UD Las Palmas Vice President, Nicolás Ortega; representatives from the association of former UD Las Palmas footballers, yellow team supporters' groups, and representatives from the hotel sector, including Cordial and Aloe.
