The game was quite an ordinary affair except for the final few minutes for the significance of the result. The first half was wholly eventless. There was neither any football or goal scoring opportunities. Alavés scored their first goal just after the restart through Munir (min. 50), who finished off a fine cross by Wakaso, heading past Raúl Lizoain. The player, who is on loan from FC Barcelona then put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute (0-2). The last few minutes were dramatic ones for the home team, as they let in a third goal (min. 78) with another header, this time by Medrán, that went past the outstretched hand of the home goalkeeper. The rout was completed by Sobrino (0-4) in time added on.

Both Deportivo Alavés and Las Palmas showed today why they have both struggled in the top flight. Las Palmas, once again showed huge shortcomings in front of goal. Their best chance fell to Etebo who hit the crossbar. A sad day then for the home team in the Estadio Gran Canaria, as they were relegated in front of their own angry fans.
