The captain of UD Las Palmas, Jonathan Viera, stepped up to the plate at the press conference ahead of the visit to CD Tenerife this Saturday and described the match as "a tough game. The standings don't mean anything, in a derby everything is equalized and they play at home," he added that "all the matches will be tough until the end because the teams have a lot at stake."

On a personal level, he said that "I have had many problems this year and now I feel good. If nothing out of the ordinary happens, I will arrive in the best condition for the final stretch."

The Gran Canarian highlighted the importance of facing the derby with calmness: "Emotions and pressure in a match like this can play tricks on you. What brought us here is being ourselves and we shouldn't change that."

About the opposing squad, he stated: "Tenerife has a better team than the standings indicate. We all know that football is unpredictable, but I didn't expect to see it this way at this point. We understand that they want to give their fans something to cheer about after a difficult season, but if there is one team with a lot on the line, it is us."

"We have a lot to be proud of for staying up there all season, and that ought to be recognized. We must all work together "He stated.

In terms of areas for improvement, he underlined "We lost points because we were in a hurry and didn't realize the game lasted 90 minutes and we needed to wear down the opponent. We need to develop ways to get through the fortified defenses."

"The pressure exists and will be there. We have to learn from everything that happened to us last year. We are a much more mature team. We are going to have to fight until the last match. We are living a very beautiful year and we can't throw it away," said Viera, who ended his press conference with words for the fans: "I've been here for a few years and I had never seen the fans like this year. They stay until the end applauding. It's very important that we are united. There will be tough moments and we have to be united, that's how things are achieved."
